What’s your views on the prospects of life sciences investing as a career? I came across an opportunity to join the investment / ventures arm of a big pharma company, and they do seed / venture investments, growth capital investments and buyouts of life sciences and biotech companies. This is a relatively new field for me (I have no biotech background). Do you guys think this is a good industry sector to focus on as an investment professional?

What are some publications, books, podcasts, online classes etc that can help me prepare for my first year in consulting? Have 5 years of experience in finance and making the jump to consulting.

Transitioning from line of business familiarity (understanding financial statements) to... real(?) Finance (bonds and cap markets and other debt sales) any advice on books or resources to learn really from step 0?

For those of you who are SHRM CP certified. Can you please advise if the SHRM learning system is worth it? Are there other effective learning tools that are less expensive ?

Does your PA firm require a CPA license to go to manager and above? What firm are you with?

My career goal isn’t to make it to MBB or a unicorn or FAANG. It’s to feel fulfilled and challenged as I progress. I can’t be the only one that isn’t title or company chasing.

What are good sectors to specialise in if I wanted to keep my options open?

I’m still a generalist but see people 1-2 years above me beginning to align. I frankly don’t really have any particular sector interest, but choosing based on “who i vibe with” sounds a bit silly (esp if you plan to exit)

I accepted a $115K base salary, 13% bonus, 10k sign on bonus (scientist supervisor) job and two weeks later, got a $135K base, 17% bonus, and 15K sign on bonus (Senior scientist role) offer from another company. Should I accept the new offer ? How do I tell the previous company about this? Also, I’ve already negotiated with the first company and the $115K base is the negotiated salary. I really do not prefer one company over the other. They’re both great! I’m very confused here. TIA🙏

Negotiation in new offer: I’m moving from fully remote to fully in office (with chance of hybrid later) offer for associate director in quality in pharma for 170k base, 18% bonus and 75k equity. I’ve asked for a sign on bonus as I’m not eligible for annual next year and will be missing my current jobs bonus. I should hear tomorrow (asking for 28k). Thoughts about the offer? Should I ask for more equity or is that standard? They’re public (currently ~$20)should I get the hybrid option in writing?

I’m a CRC who manages Investigator- led clinical research projects and I want to transition to a PM role in industry (I would slightly prefer not a PM role in clinical trials since I don’t have clinical trial experience.) I’ve applied to PM roles at many biotech companies (e.g. Charles River, ICON, Paraxel) but only got 1 interview which didn’t work out. Which companies should I look to for an entry level PM role? Any good startups to consider? Anyone have any insight or advice?

Just got offered a job at a small biotech in London (UK). ~£45k plus bonus but only 1YR FTC and no equity.
