When interviewing 1Ls for 2L jobs, what should they respond if asked about their 1L jobs? A mentee of mine just said they continuously receive mixed responses. For context, they have a small firm offer for 1L but want to do BigLaw and are recruiting for BigLaw for 2L. Should they be honest and state where they expect to be working for their 1L summer or state they are still in the process of confirming, etc.?

I don’t see why you wouldn’t tell. Especially if they are different types of jobs/firms or in different cities etc. Not every 1L gets a decent job for the summer between 1L and 2L so if they do, definitely want people to know. I knew summer associates who split the summer between 2 firms - does that not happen anymore?

Are they worried that saying they are going to be at a small firm for 1L summer will be viewed negatively by 2L biglaw interviewers? I’d be honest because a vague non-answer would make me assume they have no job at all lined up. If they have the grades for a biglaw interview I wouldn’t worry about it at all. The point is that they’re getting real-world legal experience and working instead of hanging out doing nothing. If anything, being a SA in biglaw for 1L would make me wonder why they’re considering another firm - did the firm not invite them back? Are we a backup choice? We don’t want SA offers that are going to be rejected or to make them to people we aren’t going to ultimately want to extend full time offers to.

Instead they told me I needed more training and hired me as a Junior account executive at a $50k salary + commission. Today is my 6th month mark and I have done very well. And no talks of a promotion / raise..

I have a in person(online, 4 hours - 4 people) technical interview coming up and I have been practicing my coding for the past 3 weeks. The only thought I've been having is "what if I can't solve the coding question?" I am still fairly new to the software engineer scene and the position is for a level 1 software engineer.
Does it essentially end my chances if at any point I can't solve the question? I mean I will definitely attempt to talk it through, ask question, but no progress in code. 🤷

Which one should I go for?

1. Oracle - 18.3 LPA fixed + probable bonus (I may or may not get)
2. Amadeus - 18 fixed + 1.5 variable.

Amadeus is also giving joining bonus of 75k. Amadeus is paying more, may give better hikes too, but I am finding it hard to let go off Oracle's brand name on my resume even if it's means around 2L less over an year. I am planning to work for atleast 3 years in my next company.

What would you have done in my place? Should I go for Oracle or Amadeus?

About to get promoted at PwC from Associate to Senior Associate (mgmt consulting). I interviewed at Deloitte for a Consultant position, but they’re potentially giving me an offer for BA. I’d essentially be holding out on the promo until next promo cycle. Usually, I’d understand hiring at a level below for higher levels but I feel like doing a 3rd year as a junior might not be the best decision. Should I push HR for Consultant level? I haven’t gotten the official offer letter yet, just verbal.
