The one that mattered most to me is “how do you like to work after getting briefed?”
Some folks like to dive straight in. Like, sit down with you 30 sec after a briefing and just spitball. Others like to sit with the brief for a few hours and take notes, write early thoughts, and regroup after.
As an introvert, I’m the latter. Some extroverts can be the former. And I just can’t handle that.
There’s no way to know until you’re both naked.
Also, nudity
A writer that understands best copywriting practices for digital channels vs. print work. You’d be surprised how many long winded copywriters there are regardless of the medium or use case. If you can’t sell me in less than a paragraph, you’re not a very good writer. I often have to design and copywrite because people don’t get this. So I would give him / her a scenario where they are forced to do that and ask how they would approach it.
I totally get what you mean. I’ve had partners in the past who just couldn’t write headlines or didn’t understand feedback and it would always fall on me to fix it. That was super frustrating especially when I felt like I was too junior to speak up about it at the time. I think it’s definitely valuable as an AD to be able to have a handle on writing idea statements and headlines, but I always defer to the writers. I’m not super precious about getting visual suggestions either.
Rising Star
I think you need to be compatible with what you both want out of your careers, both short term and long term. Some people will stop at nothing to win hardware and want to climb the ladder to ECD as fast as possible. Other people just want to clock in and clock out.

Talk about the work you like. Ask what their favourite ads were of all time, last year. Their favourite work that they did last year. I like to ask this to CDs and ECDs in interviews to see if we are even going to align on what good work looks like. Better to find out you have different taste in work during the interview than to find out later that they think flash mobs are hilarious.
If you’re doing in person interviews, go meet them over beers
Ask them to send you work that they like, outside the obvious award winners. This often gives you a good steer.
