Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

Who’s negotiated severance? Any tips?
So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

After submitting my resume for the Global Finance and Business Management full time position at JP Morgan (my dream job!), I got a HireVue invite the next day! However, I completed it 9 days ago and still have no response....
When do we get a response in average, and after how much time does it mean I probably am not getting an offer to continue?
Thanks!

I've always kept it for a while. I was lucky, however, I wasn't out of work long enough that it really struck me as a problem. I don't place a lot of importance on LinkedIn, to be honest, but I wouldn't want it to look deceptive. Though, if we're being honest, it seems like half the people there are really spinning and exaggerating their circumstances.

That’s a fair take. It probably feels easier when the gap isn’t very long to begin with. And yeah, LinkedIn has become a bit of a highlight reel these days... A lot of people are definitely spinning things to look better than they really are.
I've updated mine. If questioned about a small gap(months), just say the job was terminated due to a mass reduction in force.

That’s really helpful advice, thank you. I think you’re right! Being honest about it and just saying it was part of a broader reduction in force seems like the simplest way to handle it.
If you were laid off, then change the date on your resume from current to the MM/YYYY your were laid off.
I keep it listed for a while. Maybe a month or so. I figure it doesn't really matter that much but I do think it looks a little bit better to job search with a job, then I can explain the layoff after making contact with the hiring manager.
Rising Star
That makes sense. Searching while it still shows as employed probably does change the first impression a bit. I do wonder what the cutoff point is though. Maybe around three months after the layoff?

I’ve always been curious about this myself. I know of people who have done both, and it didn’t seem to have a large impact on the getting/not getting new roles.
Rising Star
That’s honestly reassuring to hear. Good to know it doesn’t seem to make a huge difference when it comes to actually landing the next role.
Pro
I’d keep it at least for a couple months. I rarely update my profile, even with new roles. If it was ever brought up that I wasn’t currently employed I would just say that I haven’t gone in to update.
