Hello all, I have an offer from Quantiphi and another famous travel company which is building a technical arm for themselves. Both the companies are offering same compensation. HRs are calling for offer acceptance. I am leaning towards Quantiphi as the culture is well known to me.
But I have to decide soon. Should I accept both the offers and then decline one at the time of joining. I am new to this and find this a little unethical. Can someone help?
PwC A recruiter from PWC reached out to me to ask if I’d consider a different office the one I applied to, since it’s full. It would be Boston, Hartford, Chicago, Minneapolis, Little Rock, Denver, San Francisco or San Jose. MSA candidate. Is there a fully remote option? Do you have to be in the office all the time? Is the compensation high at PWC? Is there a possible moving expenses? Any insight or advice would help me make a decision. Thank you!

We went through this in the 1990's with the tech boom of that era.
One camp thought it would be the perfect time to introduce and push some sort of Union or technical guild. For purposes of solidarity and in order to codify the technical jobs, skills needed, education and so forth.
The other camp said "we are sooo important, so VITAL to companies that we will NEVER have to worry about companies mistreating us". They also poopoo'd unions as taking your money without return to subsidize union fatcats. IOW they swallowed all the lies of the AntiUnion industry.
Guess what happened? Tech crashed hard in 2000-2001. Turns out companies will mistreat ANYONE.
Now I'd say the stakes are even higher, but now we face job extinction from AI.
Way to go, 90s tech bros! Maybe it's not too late now?

We should unionize ASAP. Look at arguments and disrespect in this thread from directors.
1. Mental health is a huge safety concern (once you become responsible for large projects you are managing risks the same as c suite but without the rewards)
2. Managers and especially team leads can join unions if they aren't responsible for firing ppl. Part of the ratification should stipulate this as first level software managers are doing 3-4 jobs at many companies today.
3. There is more at stake than just our livelihood. Directors think AI can build/write entire apps. I'm watching my employer hire contractors making 10 an hour to replace mid level engineers and move up deadlines. I'm working 60 hours a week essentially fixing AI bugs and teaching ppl who only know how to prompt and can't read the code they are committing why they are crashing an app used in hospitals to make medical decisions. the directors are either too naive or just don't care because they are short sighted. There won't be working software anywhere in 3 years of we don't organize. Then it will be too late.
I will never want to give up my power to negotiate to a union. In fact, I'd rather see much more flexibility for companies to hire more 1099 and less W2. Perhaps there are some "tech sweatshops", that would benefit from it, I have not seen such place. Most places I have seen would benefit from easier hiring and easier firing, and I'd prefer such a way of working too.
unions are all trash. I have never seen one that didnt save the jobs of useless co-workers. then didnt help the productive ones get more money. I grew up in detroit. i hate all unions with a passion now. wasteful oversite that eats the money that i should be fighting against the useless workers for.
A lot of IT people are bamoozled by the psy-ops Big-Tech pulled on them, and they believe their higher starting salaries and slightly better working conditions will somehow eventually uplift them to the upper classes, so they consider unionization a "poor people thing" and their natural enemy.
I think a union for tech people would be a excellent move. But it is not easy to do. You have to find a union who would be willing to represent you, hand out cards to see if a majority would want it, and have a vote scheduled through the labor board. Those who try to do this will be targeted and even fired in some cases. Unionizing is definitely worthwhile.
I'd rather be able to negotiate for a fat check based on being a top performer than get the same old pay as any old grunt. No thanks. Only the bottom feeders care about unions.
