When you got back from mat leave, were you thrown right into the deep end? Did your team ramp you up? I am a couple days back and am quite certain they’re attempting the deep end version and want to abate that strategically (and ASAP). Any tips welcome!

imre was super thoughtful about it, because it was two years ago when Anne was still the head of HR. They gave us 6 free days for our first month back so you could set up a comeback schedule that wasn’t so intense. I worked 3 days my first 2 weeks back M -W, and 4 days the two following, M - Th. Others did half days and such but I liked the shorter weeks. Kind of prevented the deep end sitch. Can you work out something like that asap??

I just left a very toxic work place.
The crazy thing is they were just named the best local municipality to work for. It's upsetting. They advertise a "culture" but don'tapply it. It felt like a used car sales pitch, I was sold a dream but given junk. I am constantly replaying moments. I have read so many books and everything leads to they were the problem. How do I recover from this?

Name the most ridiculous micro-managing by partners that you experience.

I’ll go first: MP told me that on initial emails, I am always to start with “Hello [name],” but after the initial email, I am not to address her by name again in the same thread. Initial greeting can only be “Hello [name] ” because just first name is too brisk and a “Hi [name]” is too informal. Had a 5 minute, in depth conversation as to why she prefers it this way…

I’ve noticed that many LGBTQ+ people make a point of “coming out” to co-workers or clients when initially introducing themselves. I’ve seen many partnered people do this by working in a casual mention of their significant other, which I’ve always thought was so clever and works even in a largely virtual work environment. As a single person though, it’s something I’ve struggled to do. What are other ways that you “come out” to co-workers and/or clients from initial introductions (or later on)?

Hi there

I am in need of some serious advice. I have been continuously harassed, ridiculed and spoken down to by a coworker who’s now even “threatened” to get me fired etc. We do not have an HR department and the only manager I can go to is also mistreated and not taken seriously. What do I do? I’m terrified.

I have a CD that gets extremely flustered when you ask them for their opinion on a solution. For example after showing them multiple color pallets and CD not quite liking any of them (real Goldie locks moment) i suggested why not we do (fill in three colors here), the CD freezes up and gets annoyed because they don’t want to say yes or no without seeing it in front of them. Working on tight turn arounds and a cd who is too busy for meetings it proving tough with remote working. Any tips?

I see this question about how to display side projects often, so putting this out there for anyone who might find it useful:

There’s no such thing as side projects, in my eyes. Every project is an opportunity to display your creativity, and the few you’re most proud of make it to your book. Generally, the consensus these days is that we want our advertising to not look/feel like advertising. So, why should you be concerned to separate what was and wasn’t “advertising?”
