Are you looking to avoid a lengthy Visa process? I'd say go to Japan, easy to go to if you're a US citizen... I went in December and had a great time... amazing food, a lot of interesting history, I had a couple experiences where people gave us a hard time because we weren't Japanese but the vast majority of people are respectful and kind. I still can't get over how clean Tokyo was. If you go, definitely spend some time in Kyoto; you can stay in Osaka which has better restaurants and bars and then travel to Kyoto during the day by train (30 minutes)
Taiwan then, check it out.
Thailand if you're a dude. Trust me, you won't regret it.
Hong Kong is easy, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan
@PWC1 agree with everything you said. Also want to add Japan is about the safest city in the world. You can literally leave your wallet on a table, step away, and come back to your wallet still there. No one locks their doors there. It's that safe.
Vietnam not easy. Requires advance VISA with picture that must requested through an authorized US travel agent.
I second Taiwan...my fav Asian country to go to
Hong Kong. Singapore. Indonesia. Thailand. All easy.
Taiwan is amazing - Taipei is so cheap, lots of ex pats, has amazing nightlife, amazing food. Not as jarring as a trip to mainland china in my opinion. It's less of a culture shock.
Ha, that's the one place in Asia I've been.
Edit: safest country not city.
I was planning to use ANA miles, so Japan would be convenient. Haven't heard too many people advocate for Taiwan until now. What's the appeal?
Brunei. Most consultants can't afford it.
