You can do both… It’s not mutually exclusive
There’s more to network optimization than Llamasoft. Check out Blue Yonder’s Strategist offering as well.
I would also considering expanding your view of analytics to control tower, what if scenario planning, collaborative situation / war rooms, predictive and prescriptive analytics through AI / ML capabilities…
If I was just starting off I would get a bit of everything.
If you want to be a data scientist, go SQL, Python. Anyone with an IQ over 100 can pick up tableau in a weekend or two as it’s basically point and click.
If you’re supply chain oriented, get a good grasp of a little bit of everything.
What industry / services are you providing?
Llamasoft is capable but if you really want to learn network design you need to be technical and functional. Tompkins and Fortna are the strongest firms there and have their own proprietary modeling tools.
Then Amazon, Walmart and companies with complex and extensive networks tend to be strongest companies in the space.
General analytics tend to be table stakes at stronger companies.
Both, but I would value 2 more. Since not every organization engages in network optimozation recurrently enough to justify specializing on it. Unless you want to be in consulting forever that is.
