I have a possible opportunity at Protiviti. Coming from big4 and wondering if Protiviti has fairly similar perks. I’ve read the 2022 benefits guide and it gave a oddly low PTO count of 16 days. Is this true and what about a holiday disconnect in the December time period? Are there any other hidden perks that are awesome? Already heard WLB is better and the culture, but I feel like I’ve gotta find that out first hand. Protiviti

Ok be honest, candidates. I really love this set of questions, I’ve been considering shifting my current interview style to these questions - I think they really give you an idea of who this person would be within the work setting. But the questions almost feel too deep for a recruiter to ask. What would you think if a recruiter took a different path and asked these questions instead of the usual ones?

We don’t accept it, we move south :)
No AP office in Canada. We don’t really have an office culture, you do travel to clients like with any other firm.
What’s the alternative in your opinion? Without US citizenship it’s pretty impossible and firms are well aware of that
I applied and interviewed like everyone else 🤷♂️
If you’re Canadian you can come down on a TN visa. I’ve brought over a few Canadians, and others from Mck. If you’re interested, DM me.
I would ask the hiring manager and call them out. I have seen companies match the US numbers in CAD. Still not the same but atleast it feels better than this
Why do you think you deserve a US salary when the US is like 15x more productive than Canada? Just because you live next to the US doesn’t mean you should get a similar salary. It’s a totally different economy.
That’s irrelevant though as the role is in totally different markets. The same role also exists in India, should they receive the same US salary too? Canada is not as rich as the US, so you get paid less. It’s as simple as that.
Because the salaries are determined by cost of labour not cost of living or whether you have the same skills/roles. If the companies can’t hire anyone with a specific comp band, they will raise the comp band. But when we have an abundance of skilled labour and not so much high paying companies out there - why pay more?
Why are you making an FX conversion for your salary as a Canadian while not making an equivalent conversion across all of your expenditures?
Do you earn your money in Canada and then cross the border each day to pay for goods, housing, etc.?
I think @OP the issue here is that while we may all NOT accept it, we can do anything about it. We really only have 2 options:
We can try to move to the states which isn't super easy to do in this market like perhaps it once was.
Or we can try to negotiate the best we can and find the highest paying role in Canada.
That's about jt
Id love yo make US, but I've tried to move. Even under TN companies don't wanna risk it in this economic climate.
So unless you find a path or internal transfer its pretty tough to get out there. Also, part of the reason for the difference in pay is the taxation of our country, benefits and such that is a requirement. So while I see less dollars directly, there are some other non direct benefits.
Did that already :) My company pays me USD equivalent in CAD. Doesn’t mean one can’t complain about the status quo lol
You should also do this comparison with the EU, Asia, LATAM, since everyone does the same job and everyone deserves the same pay, right?
