I like video meetings. I haven’t seen my colleagues in half a year and it’s good to put a face to someone speaking.
How is this even a question? Video is better because you can, you know, see the person.
@brand management dr - i totally agree w you. Absolutely see the benefit for some meetings, but some meeting via phone so we can have some screen breaks would be ideal
Feel this so hard. I’ve started doing non video for internal meetings. It’s ridiculous.

I stopped allowing myself to feel pressured to turn the video on. I’m just trying my best to make it through the day and deal with the world burning. I don’t need the added stress of worrying what my coworkers think about my undone hair and no makeup.
AD- video calling is legit draining. Also keep in mind not every meeting you’re having on video is a meeting you would have had in person pre covid. The amount of unnecessary video calls I’m on that could have been an email are baffling. I know we want to all be connected but not every single persons job requires them to FaceTime with clients or account leads 24/7. Think of designers, copywriters, etc.
It’s really draining. I read an article some time ago that pointed out how this is causing people some pretty intense fatigue.
Pro
Non video meetings are the worst. Business is about relationships. If you can’t see the body language of humans you’re doing business with, it just freezes any opportunity to develop these relationships.
People who turn off their video end up being at the bottom of my list when it comes to relationship development. Meaning, if they ask me for a favor in the future, I will less likely remember them, and most likely ignore their request, just like they ignored the basic decency of showing their face to a meeting.
Key is managing the quantity of meetings. Agree it’s exhausting (introvert speaking).
Just had this conversation with a colleague. I'm opting out of some video; it's taking it's toll on me.
At the beginning it was an adjustment, I was more self conscious and anxious overall while trying to make sense of everything going on in the world. But fast forward a couple months, I prefer video. I can actually see if someone is smiling when they say something or look concerned. I can see if someone is paying attention. Also, it’s added incentive to pull yourself together and keep a sense of normalcy rather than running around in pjs 24/7, which I don’t think is great for your mental state anyway.
I haven’t turned on my video in 2 months now. No reason
I’ve become very cognizant of my resting stupid face while I look up at my second monitor during calls I’m absorbing. Let me multitask in peace if I only need the information.
