Why does everyone feel the need to announce their arrival to a Skype call? And then, unless someone comes off mute and acknowledges them, they'll just keep saying their names.

What annoyes me even more is how people keep sending out stupid Verizon dial ins vs. Skype! Can't share the screen, don't see who is only.... One would expect that people know how to use Skype...

Internally, I 100% agree. For client meetings, we always end up wasting 15 minutes because half the clients can't join Skype meetings. One would also expect everyone to know how to use excel and PowerPoint. We all know that's not the case. Same is true with Skype.

90s? We used Verizon exclusively 2 years ago.

Well some people don't always have their skype front and center. I'm working or surfing the web with the screen in the background instead of tracking who is on

Maybe it's some throwback to the 90s when people could only call in to conference calls?

I think it's common practice to say hello once you dial in. It's not announcing exactly.

"(Insert name) is on the call."

All I hear

That's the automated thing. I don't like that. I'd rather dial in and actually talk "hey <name> here."

C1, we know you're there. It's Skype. We can see your name, and if your only contribution to the entire meeting is introducing yourself, I don't need you.

So, your excuse is, "I'm surfing the web and messing around for a couple minutes, let me announce my name?"

Who ever said about contributions to meetings. You go wayy off on tangents.

Yes that's my excuse. Have fun working

Need advice! Found out I was pregnant about 3 weeks ago and I was shocked! I’m in the middle of busy season and symptoms are hitting me HARD. I’m so tired and half the time I can’t think straight. Had my first ultrasound today and surprise it’s twins!! No wonder im drained! What do I do? It’s too soon to tell anyone I’m pregnant but I know my managers are wondering why I’m missing easy things and forgetting simple tasks.

Hi everyone. I am about to start a virtual internship at Goldman Sachs in their IBD TMT team. Does anyone have any tips? Especially with the virtual element on how to build raptor virtually!

Thinking about law school…dissatisfied with my salary in consulting & hate quant work. Thoughts?

Should I call the hiring manager to let them know that I got an offer elsewhere, but that I want to know where my application is at because I really would want to work there? (I actually am not gonna accept the offer I got from the other company and I really want the position from this company to which I followed up, but got no response for yet)

(Rant/Seeking advice)

So I’m on the job hunt, and have had a few interviews with both a third-party recruiter + the agency. Based of my call I just had with said recruiter, it sounds like they want to make me an offer in January.

However, I took a freelance gig at a different agency for the month of January to get me started next year and when I told them, it was like I insulted their family and then asked if I’d consider breaking my contract. (Continued in the comments)

Sharing a story.

For Asian American heritage month in March at my company they put on a jeopardy game. Several questions on coronavirus history and one on arranged marriages. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hey everybody! I wasn’t getting what I needed from current company so I started taking interviews. The niche that I work in is decently small so my current place found out about my offers and interviews. I haven’t accepted anything nor have I put in a two week notice but they’re very upset for my “lack of transparency”. Was I wrong to not tell them I was going to start looking at other opportunities? Is this considered burning a bridge? Would love to hear if anybody has ever dealt with this

I’m discouraged. Been almost 18 months and I’m not pregnant!! My LO is 5 and I’m not getting any younger and really want #2. Tried strips, tracking, apps, .. nada. I also feel this traveling (con.)
