The whole award chase gives me the ick it’s more about luck and being in the right spot at the right time then talent
Because Cannes no longer actually stands for great creative and every year it’s more and more blatant and obvious. It’s corrupt and pay to win. The egomaniacs are let loose and sit around jerking each other off living in a bubble where they can sleep soundly at night while thousands are laid off for “efficiency” sake. It’s gross and the fact that people celebrate it just adds to the problem.
Can I work for you?
Cause it’s the most extravagant out of all the shows. Yachts, parties, drinks, beach. All happening for one week.
Mentor
It’s given most of us the “ick” for years now.
Enthusiast
Everyone going to Cannes makes the same tired rosé drinking jokes on LinkedIn.
When I was just starting out around 2016 Cannes really felt like everything it was touted to be. I dreamt of one day going. Now it just looks so corny imo. Seems to have jumped the shark. Which I guess is fine with me because I don’t see myself ever getting invited. Not a knock on those who do go at all I’m sure it’s still fun and most of them work really hard to get there. The Lions still carry weight for creatives but I would rather just go to the south of France on my own time lol. I do think there should be fewer categories in all awards shows because it feels watered down. But more categories means more entry fees means more money babyyyy.
I agree it feels ickier this year. More like a tech conference / networking circle jerk than a celebration of good ideas.
