Stay home. Work is never worth it
Just landed and will not be traveling again until Oct. Thanks for the advice and support everyone.
Depends on how far the trip is. For my last kid I was 60 minute flight away where flights left just about every hour. So I travelled longer. If the travel was not that easy, I’d probably stop traveling right about now. She needs you there. Really really needs you there.
I wanted to take one more trip at 36 wks. My wife asked to me to stay. That Tues she went into labor and had complicated delivery. Glad I stayed in town. Always listen to your wife!
Definitely within the last 4-5 week I would stay close. If for any reason at this point your wife is starting to get pretty uncomfortable and it may be hard for her to get around. Stay and help her be comfortable while she waits for the baby to make his/her debut.
Things can change on a dime. As a dad who has missed a birth I can tell you it hurts. My absence wasn’t my fault or the fault of work; I still mourn the loss of the moment years later.
I stayed put at around 35 weeks as I wanted to be there too. I also had a bit of discretion in when/how often id need to travel. Leadership are usually pretty understanding about this
I traveled through the Thursday of 35 weeks. She went into labor that Sunday. Stay put.
I just had a baby last week!!! It was our first. Stopped traveling at 38 weeks
I would stop now. You never know and you will kick yourself if you went for “one more week.” No deck is that important
I stopped in week 37 (+a day trip in week 38). But client was a couple hour drive at most from home, so wasn’t overlyworried about missing things.
37-38 weeks
I missed daughters birth cos work wanted me to travel at 36 weeks. Now can’t ever take that back
I stopped at ~36 weeks for both of my daughters. My first was born at 36 weeks 6 days. So glad I stopped as I was traveling cross-country and birth was a c-section ~2.5 hours after water broke. When the second came in at 41 weeks, I certainly felt like I was twiddling my thumbs for a while, but there’s no way in hell I’d risk not seeing the birth of a child for some good discussions and powerpointing on site. Leadership was 100% supportive.
Also, really sorry to hear that C1.
Stop traveling! The client could care less about your family’s well being. Only you are there to protect wife and child. It’s a higher priority end of story
NOW. I flew home THE DAY my wife’s water broke. Ended up being 10 days early and everything was fine. Landed 10 mins after her water broke. if you can’t stop now, stop at 37 at the absolutely latesst
Now
Stopped at 36
