I'm in a role at a legal publisher right now. My work life balance is great but I'm worried about my career long term. I don't want to be unhirable as a practicing attorney again. I do freelance projects for other lawyers on the side but these are of limited complexity. I don't hate my job enough to seek out moving but I'm worried that if I don't move now I'll never get the chance again.

Nowadays, most of the service based companies are toughening their interviews and even after we clear the company level interview, we are being challenged with both the internal project interviews and client interviews.
This is being a red tape against getting a fair work opportunity.
Why are the orgs moving towards such hard selection process nowadays ?
Why aren't they lenient towards providing an work environment, that offers the opportunity for gradual progression of the learning curve ?

I am retiring from real estate! It's been 40 long years of working in this field and I'm so grateful for everything I've learned. For example, I recently spent about an hour setting up rules in Outlook to auto-filter junk emails and non-urgent emails (client alerts, data room notifications, bar association emails, etc.) into a separate folder that I can check a couple times a day. Don’t know how I didn’t think to do this years ago, but that’s about 50 fewer distractions each day since I’m one of those people who checks every email notification.
