Would you be opposed to wearing body cams at all times? Who should or shouldn't? I think it would give perps an illusion of more control because they'd assume we have to be on best behavior and are scared to do anything. Am I wrong?

I've had several allegations against me dismissed by the sergeant just by examining the body camera. Sometimes all he needs to do is inform the individual that they were being recorded in order for them to retract their complaint.

Yes, I would be opposed to wearing body cams at all times. Privacy is a fundamental right, and I believe that body cams are an invasion of privacy.

No, I would not be opposed to wearing body cams at all times. I believe that they can be a useful tool in providing transparency and accountability for police officers when dealing with the public. We shouldn't be afraid in the first place if we're not doing anything wrong.

It’s obligatory for us in Corrections-at my work place. We don’t find it very useful, despite that yes it may show which inmate hit which inmate. But we can see that anyway. There are practical difficulties such as manually turning it on exactly at moments where it’s more important to call an alarm, urgently open front doors and gates, so that help can arrive. Or we must engage in communication with the fighting parties. Not to mention if the officer is attacked where he/she will be busy defending him/herself before thinking to turn on the camera. It is annoyance on our field, It doesn’t necessarily protects us more , rather, it opens up in the spur of the moment decisions to unfair criticism. We hate it.

I believe they should be required of all police officers in the country. They should not be able to be "turned off" or removed from the uniform's front.

Do you think cops don't use the bathroom? Do you think cops only materialize when a call for service summons them into this realm, or do you also think that the time they are not on calls should be harvested for your reality TV pleasure as well?

I believe it is a complex subject. I enjoy the notion of being able to hold all police officers accountable for their conduct and preventing abuses of authority. Yet, it will violate a number of privacy concerns.

I like them. I have strong video evidence to back up formal complaints when someone lied about what actions I performed or what I stated. However, after putting up with a few minutes of rage, I just touch the top of my camera to call attention to it, and 9/10 of the time they instantly downshift into a more calm tone.

They're great. They are far superior than common opinion in terms of avoiding accountability for the department and, ultimately, the officer. One disadvantage for some departments is that it may remove some discretion.

That would depend on the context and the purpose of wearing body cams. If there is an expectation of privacy in certain situations, then I would be opposed to wearing body cams at all times.

It actually depends on the situation. If it was for security reasons and it was within the scope of my job, I would not be opposed. However, if it was for personal surveillance, I would oppose.

It depends. If it’s for safety or security reasons, then I would not be opposed to wearing them. However, if it’s for more intrusive reasons, then I would be more hesitant.

I believe that body cams are a valuable tool to not only help protect officers and the public, but also to serve as a deterrent to anyone considering engaging in criminal activity. It's for us and the public.

Required at all times. Turned on for all calls. It offers safety to both the officer and the suspect. No turning it off, no muting it, etc. ON AT ALL TIMES NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

That and the oversensitivity of the gunshot sensor is exactly why my camera gets left in the car at the end of shift instead of coming in with the rest of my uniform. That spy device is not welcome in my house.

Always have a body camera. It helps dismiss a large number of complaints, it helps when you don’t get to write a report right after a call, it helps when you get subpoenas 3 years later. If you are following the law and department policy you should have no issue with being recorded.

Multiple studies into body cams have shown that they actually support the officer actions much more than they hinder the officer or support suspect complaints. I can't remember the exact numbers, but I believe it was over 90% of the videos supported officer actions that otherwise would have been scrutinized by the brass and media had video not been available.

All Law Enforcement and Security should utilize bodycams, in my opinion...CYB! COVER YOUR BUTT!!!

The only reason anyone should ever not want to use a bodycam is if they have something to hide or otherwise conceal in my opinion. Use of a bodycam can clear up alot of allegations, in my opinion.

I wish we would have had them my whole career. It makes typing the report easier. I can make my report be a direct text version of my body camera footage. My reports get rather lengthy.
