Would you exit to AWS as Solutions Architect(L5/6), from MBB at consultant level? I have the technical background to do it, but am only concerned about being pieonholed into the SA role forever, comp seems similar or just a bit higher at my TC now. Any insights on outlook for career/comp growth as well?

Great question. I think the natural move after doing SA work for a while (3-4 years) is industry in a senior capacity like director/vp roles in cloud infrastructure. That’s what I would try to do but I’m sure others may have a different idea/path.

For sure MBB on your resumé even after 3-4 years will still have a lot of weight. 3-4 years is also ballpark for RSU vesting schedule that’s why I used it. Think of it this way, MBB+FAANG(AWS) is a bulletproof resumé in anyones eyes. Consulting + large implementations at AWS and any AWS shop in industry will throw money at you because you have relevant experience.

Out of curiosity. How would a company view a potential candidate who has a period of unemployment to study for the CPA. I am considering to start studying for the exam but I know I would need to leave my employer in order to give 110%. I am contemplating the idea of at least passing one part while employed. Then leaving my employer to study FAR. I am considering to leave my current employer anyways, so it’s more of how my future employer would view that lapse.

I completed my interview loop at Google on August 12, 2022. My recruiter informed me on August 29th that due to a couple of realignments within the org, the hiring manager has not shared any feedback. I was informed on September 8th that the hiring committee is scheduled the next day (September 9th) and that I can expect a final feedback latest by September 12th. I wasn’t informed of the results and reached out, but the recruiter isn’t replying to my emails. Does this mean I was rejected?

When calculating YOE, if you are working 2 jobs, can you double count those years? For reference, I’ve been an Army Reserves officer for the last 5 years since coming off active duty, and spend about 30-40 hours per month (outside of 2-4 week annual training) on that job. So it’s not like driving Uber, it’s a high stress/very involved job. Technically I have 7 years Active Army + 5 years D + 5 Years reserves if I count them. Don’t know if there’s any practical reason just curious peoples opinion
