Any POC attorneys who feel they are held to higher standards than their non-minority peers? How have you navigated that and not let it get you down that you have to work harder to be taken seriously?
Anyone else really over seeing these JDs fussing about the online bar exam? I mean, it's delayed (extra time is extra time...the rest of us had until the end of July), plus it's online. I remember the pure fear I had walking into the testing location. At least there is some solace in knowing you're in your own space. Thoughts?
How do you communicate with employees who don't want to wear masks? Unbelievable to me people still have issues grasping this need.
New attorney here - Passed the Feb bar exam and started working at a small firm in March. Boss is great, staff is great, I just feel like I know literally nothing about how to actually practice law. The paralegals know more than I do. I can barely write a complaint, and I don’t even know how to file. Any advice on gaining confidence when just starting out? P.S. My boss (the only other attorney) isn’t available to answer my dumb questions 8-5. I can only catch him after hours.
I’ve seen podcasts on successful practice, legal tech, leaving law for other careers, other timely topics, but none dedicated to authentic convos re how hard it is to be human in this field...(cont’d)
Hey. For people who’ve moved laterally, how did you deal with the request for references from your current employer?
Anybody have any experience taking the Georgia Attorney’s Exam? I’m sitting for it in February and wanted to hear others’ experiences with studying and sitting for it
With regards to bonuses, at 2100 hours/yr, the firm I have an offer with offers bonuses 2x yearly. Does this mean going above and beyond, or hitting target hours as it sounded? I’d assume above/Beyond
It's so hard to know whether to make a down payment when partnership is two years away and a big question mark..
5th year associate. Nearly all my law practice experience is litigation. I am looking to transition from litigation to transactional work. What can I do to help myself transition to another area of law. Take a bunch of CLEs, attend events, do pro Bono work etc. (Specially looking to transition to comercial real estate transactional work). I do have an LLM in real property development so I have exposure to CRE
Is it reasonable to expect a sign on bonus if I’m making a lateral switch to a Big 4 firm? And if it is not offered, would it be weird to ask for it during negotiations?
Can any Canadians provide a broad overview of the ad/marketing/PR agency landscape for Americans thinking about immigrating? Where are the most agency jobs? Is it mostly boutique or large agency shops? What else should someone job searching in Canada know? Asking for a (account planner at U.S. comms agency) friend ;)
Too low IQ and easily stressed - what are the best exit opportunities? I have been working with consulting 4,5 years but don’t seem to progress the last mile. I have realized that my IQ and stress tolerance is not sufficient to make consulting comfortable. Thinking about change management or data analytics good be suitable for me.
PE vs VC in terms of hours, skillsets comparison, comp, chance to make partner, and oppty to live somewhere other than HCOL cities like NYC or SF?
EM at a boutique with 6 mos in role thinking about applying to MBB. Is it possible to lateral to EM or do you need to take a title hit? Is this worth it?
Client: We want a postcard promoting “events near you” using a msg that drips with the city’s local vibe Us: easy enough, whereabouts? Client: Houston + L.A. Us: So, 2 postcards? Client: No just 1
Anyone watch Tomi Lahren's video about Obama's farewell speech? I just shake my head and roll my eyes to everything she says 🙄
When I was a kid, I used to wake up to the sounds of birds outside; now I wake up to the squeaks of the mouse I caught in a glue trap last night. Good Morning, New York.
When working remotely in the home office requires you to dress more nicely than at the client site 🤔🙄
Tips for preparing for a corporate development/strategy gig? Obviously research the company, etc., but anything else?
At United if I don’t show up for the first leg, can I still take the return flight? Award flight if it matters
Deposition question from baby lawyer: I’m a first-year attorney and just took my first deposition. I’m in the insurance defense world, so I did not have a more senior attorney with me (the insurance companies dislike paying for more than one at a deposition). I can’t help thinking about questions I wished I had asked, but I don’t want to bring it up to the senior partner. Is ruminating on missed deposition questions normal for most attorneys, even the experienced ones?
