$228k base and ~$50k in bonuses. Hours are cozy but I don’t think I’ll be promoted for a while given they just filled the role above me (with someone who has zero experience) bc they value someone being in person. I am fully remote.

Is everyone else who works remote having the same experience - passes up for opportunities even though the company swears that to not be true?

Yes. Sad reality

That’s a decent mid-tier role to ride out for 3-5 years. So long as your skills aren’t atrophying.

$275k to sit in front of a box from 10-3 M-F answering emails and the occasional drafting ain’t bad at all….

The perk that really matters

I'm sure that's an easy fallback excuse unfortunately. That hasn't been my experience but I think I got lucky

you are remote - they usually pass up promotion opportunities for people they cant see irl

I’m in the same boat and have accepted that I won’t be promoted while I’m remote. My plan is to move on to another company next year.

Are ppl worried about being on the bench esp when there aren’t a lot of projects in the pipeline? New hire here about to be up for staffing for the first time and sentiment at my firm seems to be worried/fearful about being unstaffed. Is it actually worrisome to be on the bench in this environment or is this just a product of highly ambitious over achievers worrying about not being constantly utilized?

Additional Posts in In-House Counsel

My new job occasionally requires me to review vendor agreements. I don’t have any background in this area and am trying to get up to speed. My department doesn’t have a document management system, so it’s tough to find old agreements as precedent. Any recommendations for books or other sources - or any words of wisdom? Thanks!

I am about to transition from being a junior partner at a large law firm (my practice has focused on private equity M&A) to Deputy General Counsel at a large-ish Pubco. Thanks in advance!

NFW- I just had a good laugh. Earlier today I was on a video conference call reviewing a Private Label Agreement template with a larger company who wishes to brand label products we develop and manufacture. We came to a very one-sided provision and my sales VP stated “for this one, how can we just say ‘hell no’ ...nicely?” The other person on the call said we can replace the wording with just NFW (no f@$* way) and I said “I will have to add that to the defined terms section so it’s clear”

Salary check. I am currently an in house attorney. 12 YOE. Large company with great coworkers doing regulatory work for the insurance industry. Good work life balance. I live in a high COL city. Out of curiosity and to test the market, I interviewed at a FAANG. Did not get the job, but found out TC was 350k, significantly higher than my TC 230k. I thought I was compensated fairly, but would love to see your thoughts.

What law firm is your favorite for run of the mill employment issues in the US and internationally (India, Australia, UK, Germany, etc.). I primarily use Littler because they have a broad reach and decent rates but I’m wondering whether Bird & Bird, Ogletree, or some other firm has similar pricing and as good or better quality work. So, who are you using and are you happy?
