No..never take two good things together..they cancel each other out..tell him to ask Thornton to take back the promo or reduce bump.
30% bump and promo... seems like a no brainer
Always take a 30% bump
Agree with D1. 🔥
What is Grant Thornton?
What group over there? I know they're still trying to grow their consulting practice, so layoffs could be possible in the future if they can't grow as planned
There are multiple factors to consider -- does this guy want to stay in consulting for a few years? If so, Id stay at Deloitte -- exit ops will be better the higher your level. I would also ask why he/she is leaving -- if consulting in general, it would be a waste to jump ship; I'd recommend they find an industry job. Jumping only for the money is short sited unless they are really compelled to do so. A lot of times fish will gripe about their current job or culture and it's consulting not the company. A lot of peeps who leave big 4 are looking for new jobs one year later...
^^D1 lol are you serious?
@M1 he's in their public sector fed practice I believe
I also think he upsold his current base salary so it may not be an exact 30%
He is probably being bumped in the high salary band for manager. What this could mean is that his annual raise will probably be much lower than the rest of his peers so he eventually evens out as HR probably did the salary increase to increase chances of your friend accepting. I would consider asking HR what months at level he is being brought in as Manager. If Thornton has requirements to stay at certain level before next promotion then this would impact it if he came in with 13 months at Manager vs. 0 months at Manager. There is something driving the decision to make him Manager. Either the role is contract based and need a resource to fill or they see demand in the field he would be aligned to. It's rare to get a promotion into a new consultancy... Usually bump you down a career level or keep u the same so it's an interesting situation.
Take
GT sux. Take your offer and have your firm counter if they want you to stay.
@Pwc4 - HR will tell you to fuck off since GT sucks, but still worth a shot.
