Generally the path of least inconvenience is to use the airline with the largest market share or hub at your home airport. Even if you don't like them, as otherwise you'll be on way more connecting flights otherwise which means a lot more time en route and more things that can go wrong each time. In cities with multiple hubs (LAX, DFW-DAL, ORD-MDW, DC, NYC) the answer is more complicated since you have more viable options but you need to look at who fits your travel patterns and whose mileage programs are most useful. Someone who flies a lot domestically might want Southwest if they live in Chicago or Dallas, but not if they want to use miles to travel internationally a lot for instance.
You have to figure out what you value most:
Elite member treatment, in flight product, reliability, customer service = Delta.
Network coverage out of SFO (including internationally) aka more nonstop flights, mileage redemption = AA or UA

NYC delta
Never AA
United is better than AA purely based on app functionality.
P4: I live in DFW and grew so disgusted with the operational disfunction that is #ihateaa that I switched to DL and really haven't looked back. Yes, I see more of ATL than I might want to, but the flights run on time and the employees are empowered and friendly in the rare occasion that there is a disruption, but I made a conscious decision that skypesos and my travel sanity far outvalued the angst and uncertainty that I encountered with any interaction with an #aasshole, even as an EXP 3MM. #aasucks. #neveraa. Again.
What city are you in?
Never AA... Coming from a 4xEP
SFO either United or AA depends where you'll be going mostly. Idk what people have against American I prefer them over United.
Fly out of DCA and either AA or Delta based on route. Current project is direct on Delta so I fly that
@D2 unsure where you're looking but AA's flight status page both on the web and the mobile app shows where the plane is coming from. Has for years.
SFO
I get automatic gold with Ted through Marriott plus I'm not in a hub city for anyone really.
I understand why people dislike Delta but not AA
A lot of people in my office fly Delta though
Old planes. Especially on the old US Air routes.
AA but I like 8 minutes from DCA
AA is literally the worst airline I've ever flown. United isn't much better. AA<United<Delta<<<Southwest
Delta sky miles redemptions can suck
