From what I've seen, when toxic people get more power and clout, they get worse - don't forget your last experience with them when thinking ahead to the prospect of potentially working with them again.
My boss can recently tell I'm getting burnt out, and they're explicitly making it a priority to shift my focus/work so I can recover. I still want to bail, but at least I know they've got my back and they're trying.
I’m sad someone scolded you for stepping away for personal reasons and you’re still debating whether it was appropriate.
Imagine scolding someone for undisclosed personal reasons, like…?? For all he may have known, your mom died, you were diagnosed with cancer, your house burnt down, or you were battling PTSD & depression. Sounds far from appropriate or necessary, so I agree with MDG1 above: you should be asking whether this is a place worth returning to.
Please don’t let this industry make you forget what’s important, and never stop advocating for yourself 💫
Now after a few years of seeing other people struggle with mental health and even becoming a boss and having employees end contracts early for these reasons, I feel like his reaction was inappropriate.
I have been scared to reach out to that agency for work because of this and maybe he will never want to hire me again. But with this market, I need to go to everyone to find work.
Thoughts? I don’t like feeling that I have to avoid this person who is a prominent figure in our industry.
