What’s the question here? If you want to cancel, you call them, you’ll be connected with a department that will try to give you an offer to keep it and you decide if you want to cancel or not.
If your annual fee is after August first, you get a free night at SPG/Marriott. Typically worth more than $95. If not, as long as it’s not one of your older lines of credit, very little harm in closing it.
You should learn a bit more about what impacts your credit score, by how much, and for how long. Keeping an annual fee card open to avoid a hit is really dumb. Close it, your score will recover quickly.
OP, unfortunately there’s no non-card fee for SPG - I tried doing that. I am begrudgingly keeping the line open because it is my first credit card for a long time (I’m a foreigner who didn’t know better about US’ credit score system)
Call AMEX and politely request for a fee waiver.
Wont Closing out $20k of my credit line impact my credit score? Should I open a new non fee card and move the credit line over to have no impact?
Op it might, but that depends on your overall credit utilization
Try Credit Karma, they have a score simulator tool that lets you see the impact of different actions like cancelling an account. It's not an exact science but will give you a pretty good idea.
