After a year at my agency (1st job out of school) I got an 8% raise without asking, but not a promotion in title. Very grateful of course but seems a bit odd and wondering if it could be indicative of anything.

Might have been to put you over the overtime limit?

like

Regardless, I’d look at this raise as a positive thing that shows they value you! I’d just thank your boss and talk to them about what you need to do to get a promo.

like

indicative of a recession, lol. better than a title switch with no raise.

like

This is not unheard of. My agency does this to bring an employee’s salary up to present day market value.

There’s also LOTS of growing chatter in the labor market today about paying people what they’re worth to keep good talent from jumping ship.

Either way, congrats on the extra monies!

like

It’s a merit increase! Aw it’s a good thing. If you want the title promotion, check out what the next level up is doing and work together with manager to reach your goals ❤️ you’re already on the right track if they approved a merit increase ☺️

like

Not to be pessimistic but you may have been severely underpaid and HR had to adjust your pay to avoid any potential red flags to auditors with the pay scales you are in for the role. But maybe not - who knows?

like

You got a raise. Perfectly normal. You should get one annually

I echo AD1. They might have realized they’re losing money on you because you were making so much overtime given your income threshold in NY. So they decided to bump you so they don’t need to give you overtime anymore. Sorry. But the fact that they gave you the raise is a great sign they have confidence in you. They want to keep you. But they’re losing money on you.

I’ve been working for my State Farm agency as a team member for 2 years. I am licensed in property and casualty as well as life and health, but only make $13 an hour. I technically can make bonuses but I’m not supposed to dig into a sale and I have to send it to a sales rep (I am service and retention mostly). My boss also has me running a retired agents office until a new one is chosen (its an hour away with no pay increase or mileage pay). Also, no benefits! Should I start job searching?

The problem is we’re going back into the office and I don’t want to go in if it’s just going to be senior management in asking me to get them lunches for client meetings or fetch a glass of water and cutlery for meeting rooms. Definitely not ready to go back to that….

What are some good practices during the sales phase of a potential project to execute before the contract is signed? Seems obvious but would love some ideas on standard operating procedures that help with seamlessly handing over a signed contract to the account team. For example, speaking to the potential client explicitly about their role in staying on schedule, reviewing scope creep consequences, etc.

I’ve since created, implemented, and trained our dept. on project mgmt for clients and am trying to convince the owner to apply those principles to our internal jobs. They are resistant because they just want the work to be done and don’t “want to keep spending money on internal jobs”. I’m confused because we’re doing the work either way and “spending” in labor/resources.
