Once you get comfortable with the fact that it may happen again, it’ll be liberating. You’ll finally be in control of your career, not some bean-counter. You’ll be freely aware of always having a Plan B, of having a portfolio site that stays up to date, of making yourself invaluable how you can and, should the inevitable unfortunately happen out of your control you’ll be ready that very day to pick up and find work. This shit is empowering.
You have no control over it. So don’t worry about it. That’s just wasted mental energy.
Have fun coming up with cool ideas. That’s your ship to steer.
You mean you were previously laid off, and you have a new job (but anxiety about future layoffs)?
I save money. And I live below my means. I also was laid off and then found a full time thing. They say your rent should be 30% of your salary (for some of us, it’s closer to 50%). Mine is 10%. My friends go for the elevator building, doorman, etc...I got my 3rd floor walk up apartment in a cool building near the park. So I guess knowing that I could quit my job any time I want and still live comfortably is what keeps me sane...well sane sometimes.
Yeah. It happened like, two years ago. Found a new gig quickly and I’ve gotten nothing but great feedback. But, every time I get a meeting invite that I’m not expecting I automatically assuming I’m being fired. It’s totally crazy, I know
It will happen again. Accept it as part of working in the industry. Stressing about it won't change that fact so just prepare for it. Save money. Keep your network alive. Keep your website up to date.
