It’s hard to predict the hunger of another person to the ml/oz. I kept a log of how much mine would drink when and try and portion based on the last couple days around the same time. Sometimes I’d have to make more. Sometimes I made too much. With the extra, I collected it in a separate jar and added it to bath water so it wasn’t totally wasted and could help his/her skin.
I think the original “don’t cry over spilt milk” was actually about breastmilk. Do what you can but try not to overstress - this is not a precision sport.
I gave my first one , and currently giving my second one in milliliters instead of ounces since it’s way more precise.
I have a food scale that removes the guessing of how many ml I give because it’s sort of hard to guess based on the bottle markings.
But with this unit of measurement and also I keep a log of how many ml I am giving per feed using huckleberry app (or whatever other app you may like) the second guessing drastically reduces.
How old is the baby? Make sure you are doing paced bottle feeding (google some videos if you haven’t heard the term before but the idea is that a 3-4oz bottle should take about 15 minutes to drink because that is about how long it would take to nurse). Approximately 1oz per hour once you are past the early days. There are a lot of resources online for how many ounces they should be drinking in the first 2 weeks as their stomach grows.
We fed baby 3oz every 3hrs to start with. If she left milk in the bottle or was sucking for more when it was empty I would make note of it (and give another 0.5-1oz if really fussy) — if it became a trend I would increase/decrease by 0.5oz for that feed until I got to a good spot where she was satisfied every time. Her bottle typically ranged from 3-4oz during the first few months. When they get bigger you can start to consolidate — she got to a steady state of about five 5oz bottles a day.

I don’t worry about over feeding anymore (I just let him have what he wants and keep an eye on his weight to make sure he’s growing okay), but I used premie nipples for a long time at the beginning to slow down the flow and prevent him from getting too much too fast.
Same here. My daughter is three months and usually only cries when she’s hungry. If she’s crying, I offer her the bottle and she either does or does not take it. She’s a big girl (84th percentile in weight), but she’s 91st percentile in height and her doctor has never made a comment so we just feed her when she will accept the bottle. I don’t even really notice how much she’s eating other than have a general idea of the last time she ate and adjusting the bottle size accordingly. If the doctor says something, we will make a change but until then, this works best for us.
