Hey fishes,
Let’s say Brillio gave some joining bonus and if we are leaving within an year we need to pay it back.
So does it mean I need to put papers after one year or is that okay to put papers after 9 months, so serving 3 months notice makes it one year.
Please let me know if anyone had an idea about this.

Maybe if the people who did the least amount of work weren’t making a million dollars, there would be money to pay the employees and avoid layoffs.
@AD1 and cut back on the number of people on an account in general from the beginning. I worked on a tiny scrap of digital business that could have been handled by a Sr CW/AD team and an account person. We’re talking a banner or two every 4-6 weeks and some emails. That business was supported by a team of 6 account people, and 5 creatives.
These massive cuts happen because agencies refuse to staff things properly from the beginning. They hire more people than they need l, then when they realize the mistake, they cut a ton of people. It’s shitty to do that to people.
All this, yes, totally. But does anyone else feel a market contraction or recession on the horizon? I know a lot of freelancers struggling. Layoffs seem to be ramping up. And the stock market is roaring past increases in productivity. Feels very 2007-y.
When people are doing the hours/job of 1.5 people and they are still laying people off and imposing hiring freezes it is definitely greed from the top
Blame clients. Blame ourselves for not showing how our work unquestionably contributes to clients' bottom line.
It won’t change until the big agencies are brave enough to buy themselves back from the holding companies and go back to the model that worked from the 1920s through the 1980s
Idk I get the sense there’s a shift a-comin. Smaller, more focused agencies that specialize (eg. We focus on mobile creative, we used to be a media company, etc) rather than these huge guys who want to “own the conversation.” It’s 2017 you can’t really do that anymore.
A lot of factors...
- clients going into review more often
- agencies cutting fees to win those clients
- agnecies focusing in revenue first then margin after the fact
- clients cost cutting everywhere
- focus on transparency hitting secondary revenue streams in media and production
- etc
My agency did major layoffs on Friday to many lower level employees across the board. Somewhere between 20-30 I’d say. Didn’t even hit creative yet. Told now that will come on Tuesday and will be at least 15 people. It was bad enough that news of the layoffs leaked last week and everyone was already going to work every day fearing for their jobs, but to separate the layoffs over multiple days is insane. For an agency that brags about culture that’s pretty fucked up .....
Agree with creative director 1. To be gigantic in today’s industry doesn’t work anymore. To become independent is the scape here
While I appreciate people thinking layoffs at our company are due to holding company, it’s not accurate. One person is driving all of our layoffs and hires.
Even more? Which agencies?
Yeah EVP and Director 1. Many factors in play. Agree SRC 1 that it feels so unsettled and that something big is going to shake out.
Droga5 - DDB, BBDO, TBWA, GSD&M (All Omnicom)
Ogilvy too. More to come I’m sure.
I don’t think all agencies need to adopt the same “model”. Everyone said the agency model is changing, but I don’t think that’s the problem and I don’t think people know how to change it for the better
Which agency?
It's definitely partly holding company greed, but my agency had layoffs this week, and that has nothing to do with our holding company, rather the complete incompetence of our leadership team. The more I work with them, the more astounded I am that they have jobs at all, let alone c suite level jobs.
