There's no technical issue. You haven't really faced much decline in fertility at 40 years old. Having had a child at 40 myself, the biggest thing is just your ability to deal with the late nights, the change in your routine, how active young children are, disciplining in a really living way etc. I find these things harder as we are older and more inflexible in our routines, thinking etc.
My brother is having a kid and he is 44; you are good. Males are fertile longer
My dad had a kid before he died a year later. He was 62. We got it a lot easier as guys in terms of procreating lol. Id get a sperm count if I were you tho, but all else equal you should be fine. Just keep up with being active bc they will wear you out
Thanks!
My dad was 41 with me and 43 with my sister back in the 80s as one data point. Biggest suggestion as someone how’s had male factor infertility, when you do decide to start trying, go get a semen analysis done. Cheap and easy and will help tremendously if you guys need some extra help and your lady has to go through much more invasive testing
Thanks man.
This is very helpful and means a lot. She is 42 and has had her eggs frozen a couple of years ago. Everything I read suggests I should be good but she feels it’s risky after 40 even for men? I’ll go do semen analysis, is it covered under insurance and do I need to get a letter from my primary physician?
Depends if you have HMO or PPO. If the former, then you’ll need a referral no matter what.
OP . Am in the same boat at you . Still trying at 40
I went ahead and did a sperm test. Went back to this little testing room and the lady who works there gave me a cup to use. However the angle is weird and quite a bit of it spilled on the floor - I then had to come back out and confirm with the group of women behind the desk whether I had enough in the cup. One of the most awkward moments ever 😆 but as a public service announcement, they actually don’t need the full load to run the test
Lol
I had my 1st at 41 and 2nd at 43, no notable issues.
35 and 37
I had my last at 49. No issue.
You guys have me considering having another one…lol…how old was your wife?
