What's the salary range for a director at the Gilead Sciences foundation? There is a position perfect for me, but I don't want to throw my hat in the ring if starting salary isn't $180-190k. Also, any thoughts on the stability of their philanthropic commitment? There's talk of a recession; I don't want to go private to be cute a few months later.

You are 31? Yup your life is over.
Let me tell you what you don't want to hear.
Stop winning like a 13 year old. Get hold of your self and move on. The attitude you are showing will do nothing but keep you down.
Wow here's the reason why people find consulting toxic
I can guarantee that approximately 0.0% of the population views a MBB job as success in life.
But 100% of MBA grads know what MBB is and there is shame amongst them, honestly MBAs are the worst about titles.
I’m not in MBB, was part of big 4, and trust me all this is hype! I am happier outside this, balancing work and home, steadily growing. You can be a hot shot at a smaller, less renowned place than being a low hanger in the MBB/Big 4s. You get big bucks but they do suck your life out of you!
1st world problems to it’s finest
Yes. You top MBA working in B4 consulting making 6 figures a year… you are a complete failure. Smh.

Why does someone ask this every now and then? Some variation of the “am i complete failure for not getting into MBB?” comes up at least once a month. 😫
OP you do realize some people also turn down MBB right? We’re not defined by whether we have one of three firms on our resume.
I was w a Fortune 50 company post MBA, but fell into doing application related work for trading. Worked for the software vendor then went into consulting for other companies and now as an independent. I will try hard not to go back to working w another large bureaucratic company expecting you to trade you life away for a title and above avg pay. I make a 1% income doing what I do and that isn't apparent to anyone I would tell what I do. No employees, no fancy titles... There's plenty of other ways to make good money and not be a virtual slave to MBB or Big 4 companies. I would recommend you do some self analysis and figure out what will make you happy. Why do you even want to go to work at MBB? It doesn't sound like a fit for you, at all. Find your passion and where you are comfortable and can do well. If that delivers a little less financially, so what. You get rich by investing, not by titles and giving your time away to make the partners at your company rich.
Sounds to me like OP going through a mentally challenging time too - I’ve been there and I know what it feels like. (If you aren’t then I’m glad I guessed wrong)
Stay strong and always believe in yourself. Prioritize the needs of yourself and try to stay afloat.
To all that offered nothing but sarcasm you guys are some serious assholes. Shame on you
Ops, everyone’s career path is diverse. Do a bit of soul searching. Figure out what your passion is, and start allocating all of your efforts towards that passion. Rest will align seamlessly.
Enjoy the holidays
Okay you’re being way hard on yourself. But literally I can relate to having high standards/ expectations . It’s normal to compare but literally the thief of joy. Put things into perspective. Really keep asking yourself why/why does this matter? Why you feel this way? Where this belief originated? There’s probably a deeper reason behind all your choices. You may find that you’re passionate about something else or that this is just a delay but does mean you’re a failure. I remember when I got a meets expectations on a review and was going to fall apart because I didn’t want to be average. A lot of our expectations started before we entered Corporate and really when you better understand that in therapy and coaching you will be better off handling ups and downs in life/career. This will not be the last setback or disappointment but how you process and navigate through is up to you. It doesn’t define you. Speaking from someone who has dealt w tough things. You will get through it. It too shall pass. If it makes you feel any better I set such a track record career wise but also just being a good human that even when I was unemployed for a period, my friends still admired me for things i did or things I was doing and my passion around it even if it wasn’t as profitable as before. People mirror how you feel about yourself and what you’re doing (not all people; some are just assholes)… but you get my drift.
this is a joke, right?
Some people get like this about MBB…
The people who succeed the most in life are the ones who have failed the most. Just keep working and trying eventually and you’ll end up being more successful than your peers.
50 push-ups
I spent my 30s practically running a company with full effort and pride, but as a phantom with no credit and embarrassing 🥜 salary. I didn't move fast enough in my career before having kids and that's where I landed to balance my family and income. You're already in big 4 as you start your 30s. Snap out of it and don't squander this.
Stop comparing yourself to others. What’s with the obsession with being the MBB star? Maybe deep down it’s not your path. When things are done out of passion you don’t need to push that hard.
There is a world outside of consulting. You are educated and experienced, do something that makes you feel happy, not a failure.
Please stop this unhealthy behavior of comparing yourself to others. Your journey is your journey. Focus on being better than yesterday the rest will take care of itself.
Please don’t compare yourself with others. Everyone is on their own journey. If I were you, I would spend time on improving performance to make up for that first year so you can go for agile promotion. Then network to land MBB if that’s what you measure happiness with. I know several people who are working hard to land a job at big4 but can’t so be grateful for what you have and don’t compare
Don’t compare yourself against others, there will always be others you view as doing better. And it’s all perspective.
I think you will have a different perspective if you realize that you are already the top 1% earner of your age in the whole country.

Surprised this doesn't mention that we all need to Live, Love, Laugh
Comparison is the thief of joy! As long as you can focus on being a better version of yourself, you are doing great!
Truth 👍
Here's my simple analogy / answer - Imagine if the only measure of success for MBAs was to get into MBB. So anyone who doesn't get into them, isn't good enough. In that world - you are saying other companies would be run by 'failures'? We wouldn't be seeing the amazing businesses that we see today if that was the case. mBB consultants will be among the richest / most successful people in the world. Not the case, is it?
What you are on is a discovery phase, trying to discover what you enjoy doing. It can takes years and even decades to do that. Keep experimenting and at some point you will find something that fits your interest and the times you don't you have another data point to add to your 'do not pursue' list.
Godspeed and best of luck!
