Both of those base comps are insanely low, even for fully remote. You should be able to find something in the 170k+ range if you’ve got prior IHC experience. What’s your childcare situation for the 3YO? My spouse and I are both lawyers and have three young kinds. All three are either in daycare or elementary school. One of us is fully remote and the other is hybrid, and it’s workable after lots of trial and error. Curious what’s going on for you that the 3YO makes PTO so crucial, especially in a remote role?
You’re saying a company offered 160k remote but NOT paid mat leave (beyond state mandated)??? That’s crazy. I think you should be able to find something comparable that does offer standard mat leave. I usually see anywhere from 10 weeks to 6 months for the mom. Some places offer the same for the non-birthing parent, some don’t (mine was 4 weeks as the dad).
Omg. Why are people taking low paying jobs? Unless you really have to you should be looking for something higher. This is why people think they can pay us less. You shouldn’t be making anything less than 150-175 with 3YOE.
I mean tech as in software engineer or tech adjacent role.
Also, not all tech companies are flush with cash. This is especially true for start ups.
I'm not sure about your other point re: scale. That's the universe of the market lol. Yes, big tech pays lawyers more, but not everyone can work there, so someone who got turned down and then went into gov, etc., shouldn't be excluded from salary stats simply because they work in gov.
