Am I the only one trying to re-acclimate to the corporate world after leaving the teaching profession? I do not miss teaching much—I worked in an impoverished county for two years and was absolutely miserable. But I went from being my own boss doing that, having multiple assistants, and doing my own metrics to being a glorified secretary. The real punch line is that my pay cut was only $2k! Two years in, I sometimes struggle to find meaning in my work. Anyone else?

Hello all, I’m planning for a career switch. As I’m currently in Finance sector and planning to quit my job and to start my career in IT Hardware companies like: HP, Dell and Lenovo etc.. Before taking this jump I want to know how is the career growth in IT Hardware, how is the promotion structure in such companies. At the biotech company I work at avg inside sales is $62,632 with a $3500 per quarter cap. Commission structure is % based on sales quota reached vs capped (not a direct % of sales). I’m underpaid at $53000 with $3500 cap per quarter.

Is this legal? My spouses company just decided to change their comp structure for account managers. It was base + comm, now it’s commission only but nothing changed, OT commission is the same, didn’t get more points, just took away the base pay and said work harder basically. So now they have to worker harder to get $50k they were already making. (Not a decision based on employee performance, they’ve been crushing it. I think the company is just trying to save money they overspent else where)

Due to obvious conditions my comp for the calendar year (salary+bonus) is back to 2017 levels although my overall sales are more than double and 1/3 less total comp than last year. It seems like comp opportunity is always decreasing during good times (I get it) but when it comes to adjusting during bad times, nothing was done. Is this normal for industry sales?
