It’s crazy how a piece of paper dictates your ability to make money in this corporate world we are in. I suggest you revamp your resume and display the knowledge and expertise you have gained from 10 years in the field and start applying to accounting positions at firms and see if they bite. You should be making much more at this point based on your experience but that’s not your fault. Best of luck.
Thanks so much!
Don't expect more if you do not have a degree. At minimum, get an associates. I got my BS in Business. Started taking accounting classes and then landed a position as a receptionist at a small CPA. After a while, the senior accountant would have me enter client's invoices and cash receipts. I spent 7 years with the firm and moved on to a true accountant role with a radio station. Stayed there for 3 years, then got hired on with a very large CPA in Houston. Got my Masters in accounting while at the firm. I did it online. Spent 6 years with the firm then moved on to Controller position in healthcare. Got my CPA license around that time. I am comfortable with the money that I am making now. I typed all this to say, if you want more money, you have to put in the work. If you don't have a degree, employers will take advantage of you.
That is incredibly impressive bravo. I love the determination and ambition and the tenacity. That's exactly what it's all about. You never gave up great story.
Get your degree pick a better profession. Don't waste your time at 25 $20 an hour come on. You obviously have an aptitude for numbers perhaps you can be a manager somewhere else like manage a store or a business don't waste your time on that shitunless you get a degree. The other alternative is becoming a tax preparer may be a lucrative thing you can do on your own or start your own bookkeeping business.
Yes, a bookkeeper makes more than that.
It sounds too low! When you revamp your resume try to highlight process improvements you have made, savings and efficiencies gained.
As an accounting intern I made $35 an hour. Just go to school online and apply for internships.
In Arizona, it is 22-27.00 per hour.
Yeah I think even without a degree you are underpaid. My kid sister who is a barista takes home $30/hr with tips. No degree, no extremely specialized skills.. and we're in a mid-size city
Don’t take this the wrong way, but my Asperger’s son in VA makes $22+/hr washing dishes. I am $125+/hr remote with a CPA and 20+ years experience, and I think I am underpaid!
Oh, I don't know about California, but I live in the Gold Coast in Connecticut and a Stonesthrow from New York City. You need a bigger job ..
Way underpaid. It’s senior accountants with 3-4 years of experience making close to $100k.
Probably, but shop yourself around to find out. Prospective employers rarely ask what you were making before or currently, don't offer it, divulge and give $00,000 if a question on a survey asks.
You should definitely be making more than that OP. People withouth degrees make more than that working in retail at some stores. And you have a ton of experience so you should be much closer to the $30 an hour mark.
