AMA: We have a nanny and my wife and I both work full Time in post MBA jobs. Kids 1 and 2 years old

What’s a post MBA job? Doesn’t that just mean you have an mba, and a job? I would hope most Mba students get jobs, or is your school not known for producing graduates who can become employed?

If you could ask yourself anything, what would you ask?

Shouldn’t be snarky but it’s a Monday after all. I’m just struggling to tell if you hosting an ama is some sort of humble brag somehow, or if there is something I misunderstood in your profile.

What’s an AMA?

P1, ask me anything.

Thx OP - do you travel? - is this a live-in nanny? - your location? - how much is the nanny cost?

Planning on a 3rd?

-Yes I travel about 80 nights a year. It’s actually a welcome reprieve -she does not live in -LA -$17 an hour with a minimum of 45 hours so if we don’t use it we lose it. If we’re on vacation she gets paid and we also pay her for a week between Christmas and New Years that she’s off. Pretty standard in my city to pay no matter what as the caretakers need a set amount to budget -yes we are planning for a third

At what age do you plan to send the older one to daycare?

2.5 years old is the plan but only for three days a week part time. Our pediatrician told us there no real benefit in sending them before 3 but we felt our oldest is a bit shy relative to kids who have been in daycare since infancy

C1: my wife did equity research post bschool and then went into industry. It was her decision to take a position with more predictable hours. I wasn’t consciously trying to humblebrag but perhaps I was. With two kids, a nanny is actually comparable in cost to full time daycare. Hope was to answer any questions in the consulting dads bowl in the interest of giving back. I hope you had a better Monday

C2: got me. Question is circular but maybe why did I post an AMA when C1 was so rude about it

No, it’s a legitimate self-reflective question. What’s the one question that reveals your deepest truth? Your biggest worry? Your greatest insecurity? Example: Am I living up to my potential?

C1 is apologetic. A much better Monday and mood this week. Sorry op. Btw I have 2 kids and 2 nannies, and wondering how we’ll cope without them while going on holiday over Christmas.

Appreciate that C1. We good and I’m sure we can both use some good karma during the week between Christmas and New Years when our nannies are off

Anyone else (who is NOT in big consulting/tech/banking), run the numbers of when they'll be out of MBA debt and realize it was not worth it? If you had an income of 120k, it would be quite difficult to save for a house/retirement/etc while paying down debt for 10 years.

I’m trying to make the jump from agency > platform (not FB…more like Spotify or Twitter etc.). I work with reps at these places as part of my job, but technically their loyalty is to my clients (the ones spending $ on their platform), not to me, working at the client’s creative agency. So it feels weird asking them for a recommendation or referral, but that would obviously be easier than applying on the jobs site... How do I utilize my “network” without making things awkward?
