Any actual benefits of working at a network agency as opposed to a local shop that makes good work?

Larger shops have a structure. Project managers. Design teams. Presentation teams. At small local shops, you’ll be wearing a lot of different hats. Which can be fun…but I found myself missing PMs. Too many instances of me juggling 10 things and suddenly realizing I’m four days late on the 11th thing.

like

Hahahahaha I wish my largeish shop had PMs, most we have are account people that act as yes men.

Job security. Smaller shops feel it more when a client leaves.

I know some Indy shops that work on Super Bowl spots with large production budgets. But if you mean agency fees, yeah, probably paying them less because they usually have less overhead/employees.

like

Resources can be a blessing and a curse. You will have a better chance to produce a range of work at smaller shops. The flip side of that is being spread across more projects and brands than you would at a network, which is not for everyone.

like

Thanks for the replies everyone! Decided to make the move to a local shop because I was offered a lot more money + title bump. Only thing I’ll miss I think is a project manager!

like

Usually higher salaries at network agencies.

Option to sell in work to other markets if it can’t be bought in your local market.

So I had been working as medical interpreter up to the early part of this year. Today, during an interview, the Director with whom I was interviewing genuinely urged me to consider pursuing a career as a PA or even attempt to go to medical school. I love working in healthcare, there’s nothing like it.
