Any advise on exiting consulting to go to a startup?

I have an excellent resume as a corporate attorney, have great references and experience, am a likeable person but am in the process of being laid off due to COVID. What are my prospects of finding a job once the firm cuts me loose? Any tips for how to best position myself? I am very flexible about what type of job I will take and salary. My only hard no is working long hours at a sweatshop.

How do you advocate for a "level" promotion in a company that has vague unofficial descriptions of levels? I'm doing L4-5 (on standard levels, or L3 within our system) work but can't get away from the unofficial "L2".

Making 140k with 7 yrs experience in this role, and 12 prior years experience in Systems Engineering roles. I know someone on my team is at 180k with a similar career.

How can I go about looking for a mentor as a software engineer? I am almost 3 years into my software engineering career and I feel I haven’t learned and done as much in 3 years as I should have. I'm a solid software engineer; I get the job done, I'm reliable, I work hard, i can accomplish almost any technical task with enough time, I'm supposed to be smart; I went to MIT.

But I am in awe of those 10x programmer types, because -- as the name would imply-- they finish everything 10x faster than me. I don't understand how they do it, and I am super envious. I want to be like these guys. But how? Is it even learnable or is it all just God-given talent? How can I become like them?

Seen a lot of “my company is so amazing posts” continuously on LinkedIn a la “here at XYZ we give people lots of time off and it’s amazing” or even “so happy XYZ company allowed me to take maternity/paternity leave” - are folks just trying to look like team players or do employees get some sort of incentive for doing this at companies? I feel like the folks I see that work at Salesforce (for example) do this constantly and more so than other big companies.

I feel like a lot of the discourse about pharmacists lately ignores that we are often just as informed or even more informed about the drugs physicians are handing out than they are. When it comes to the effects of medication we are without a doubt the best informed, period. Why is there this stigma that we want to prevent people from getting what they need?

I've just received a job offer and am happy with the package and salary. I think it's a fair offer - it's an indistry I haven't worked in before and also a great pay rise. However, should I still try and negotiate salary? I was told that you should always push for more, even if you're happy withe the offer. Thoughts?

So, I have always had jobs where I earned a base salary with the ability to earn commission and bonuses. But I've been told that I'm limiting my earning potential by not taking a commission-only role but this seems risky, especially since the economy is supposed to tank
