Any expats here face pushback from your family for moving to a different country? They always try to shame me for moving so far away around the holidays...

Yup. Every damn year… it’s f-ing tough! The guilt is laid on particularly hard at this time of year.

Yep, always. 5 years now and doesn’t seem to get any better…

Damn this is really sad, my grandfather still cops this from his family in Wales and he's been in Aus for nearly 50 years. Just out of interest where are you guys originally from??

I’m a 24 year old man with a 27 year old gf, have been dating a year and a half and we live together since January (in a house I own alone).

This will sound obnoxious but is the heart of the issue. I am very intelligent and always have been growing up (skipped years in school, currently doing my second part time masters and have been a straight A student my whole life). I am also a very high performer in work with high aspirations…

OT but my SIL is 52 and single (engaged once but broke it off, ultimately never married). She is in the tristate area. I really want to buy her matchmaking services for her upcoming birthday but just saw how crazy expensive the fees are to work with one. Does anyone have any recommendations, or any other ways I can help her? I really want to be able to. Any stories of women here finding love in their 50s? It seems like it's easier to do once you've been married before but im not sure why. TIA

I’m in my second long-term relationship (first was from age 16-20, he broke up with me). My current boyfriend and I have been together for 3 years and I feel like it’s time to end things. The beginning of my wife and my journey - let’s see what happens from here. We both came from very poor families and have had to take loans out to pay for everything. I just graduated from MBA and she from dental school, combined we earn ~$330k and will likely continue to see that amount grow and provide better lives for us and our family. Just a reminder that we all start in different places and no one should be disheartened by those who are more fortunate. Each persons path is their own.

Has your wife ever been jealous of your career success? Made it through final round interviews at two firms in the same week. Wife has been acting a bit weird since I told her.

Has anyone used Toptal for job hunting? Their process seems time consuming so I want to know if it's worth it. Time is limited in my current season of life. Spouse and I both work and we have 2 littles at home. I'm miserable and have stagnated at my job and need a change.

Hoping this doesn’t turn controversial. Should I be teaching my young kids to read Quran in Arabic (so learn a new language just to read Quran but no value otherwise), or skip Arabic and have them read transliteration (so like Alhamdu lilahi) or third option to just read in English the translation where they will actually understand? I mean, I spend 100 dollars a week on a tutor to teach them Arabic. My parents spent thousands and I can barely read it now and prefer transliteration.thoughts?

I have a pretty passionate hate for those who have “no fault” divorces. These people can’t keep one single promise in their life even when they have the choice of anyone on an entire planet and are not forced one bit into a decision.

Hi, I am on H1B and partipated in an online survey (a few of them last year). I only get to redeem the points for gift cards (no cash transactions) but once the overall redemption crossed $600 previous year, I was asked for ssn to issue a 1099-MISC form (I did confirm with the company). But now I got a 1099-NEC form (non employee compensation) which I believe should not be getting on h1b as it is considered as self employment. Any ideas on how to deal with this?
