hiya fishes. happy friday! sorry if this isnt the right bowl, but this is in regards to vacation time. i have an interview process starting next week, and wondering when it would be good to mention i would be OOO between the middle of the month in september? its for a week. im unsure if i can twist this to have a start date once im back. going back and forth on being transparent vs. mentioning it later on. thoughts?

I attended a client interview last week and was selected for the same. Now they are asking to join within a day or two. I'm having my mom's surgery this week. How to safely refuse to join this client project for at least 10 days. I can't take leave for 10 days.

I have my last day at employer A right before thanksgiving and will be covered on their health insurance through 11/30. I am taking some time off before starting a new position with employer B in mid January but their insurance wouldn’t be effective until 2/1. One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.

So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)

Have new analyst on the team with an MBA and project experience. After working with them for 2 months it’s apparent that there are 0 consulting skills (excel, outlook, PowerPoint) and they freeze up even on internal calls. They are young and coachable, and I offered to put time into that. However at a company event they made no effort to get to know the team and chose to stick to their familiar colleagues in their home office. I’d like to ask for a new resource but interested in feedback.
