Would location influence the pay (for example New York vs So Cal)? What’s the best way to turn down a 2nd interview? During the 1st interview, I learned that the compensation for the role is not within the range that I am looking for and requires 400 more billable hours a year than what I bill now. I’d basically be laterally for my current salary just to bill 400 more hours. I also wasn’t aware that the local office was strictly ID. Firm website advertises lots of practice areas. Any advice? Is it common to negotiate software engineer salary at smaller companies? I know it’s common at FAANG, but what about for companies with around 200 engineers? I have a counter offer from my current company and on-site interviews scheduled for end of July with google and Amazon, but I’d prefer to go with the smaller local company if I can negotiate the salary (from offer letter) up another 5% or so.

I really need advice. I’ve been in my current role for a couple years and I’m just so defeated. I am good at my job. I work so hard and I’m so undervalued and unappreciated. My work is scrutinized to a degree that no one else experiences (I could give concrete examples of other people delivering design work that haven’t met BASIC design principles and it’s gotten approved) compared to me where I frequently get feedback that somehow makes my work worse but I just comply because it’s not (1/2)

I'm leaning toward GL accounting at a publicly-traded company. My background is 3.5 years audit and 2.5 years technical accounting advisory.
