Totally depends on the practice, your targets, RSUs and bonus %. Assume $350-$700k.
Band D base generally 300k-400k. Bonus in average year 80k-150k. RSU was 100k for me last year....seems to vary a bit. Also specific bonuses related to account performance that can amount to 30-50k in the right account. It’s all about targets and relative attainment. I am pretty satisfied that the incentive comp ties fairly to performance. I mean, could be more of course ;) but better numbers drive better bonus pretty consistently. Doesn’t strike me as political.
That’s because they are big deals. The secret to happiness at IBM is 6 figure deals, you can keep to yourself and keep flowing and avoid the madness. If you have a good pipe to make targets on sell and bill type work then it’s fun to swing for the fences. Then you’re in a position of strength vs weakness. Many on big deals are desperate because one deal is their whole year, which is why it gets so strange. Just avoid.

Director: Piece of advice on negotiation. Don’t buy into any variable comp BS the recruiter will tell you. Don’t count on it. Swing really hard for a high base - ask for $500k+ base and hopefully they’ll scale back to low $400s in base or better. IBM is notorious on very high base and will always screw you on variable. All the best.
Oh yeah, I didn't do that also. They talked about the bonuses and then I dug deeper by asking what were the last bonuses given at GBS, abysmal.
Thank you all for the input - expecting an offer shortly and have not talked TC yet with the executive recruiter and would like to come in prepared! Very much appreciated!
