Any ideas of how to find what other career path might be better for me? I feel like I’ve done research on legal-adjacent careers and have zero interest. No clue on what would actually be fun to do, even without considering potential salary as a factor. I think I just don’t like working, period. But can’t help but wish I could find something more enjoyable.

I feel the exact same way. I went in-house hoping that it was just the law firm stress that was the issue, but in some ways I feel like in-house has been worse. I can think of tasks I’ve enjoyed doing in prior jobs, but I haven’t been able to figure out how to turn that info into a new career path. No advice, unfortunately - just commiseration.

like

Yup. At least at a firm the high $ deal sizes / high profile clients etc. kept me a little more engaged.

Been feeling similar. Worked for two different areas of law and can’t seem to think that I’ll be able to ever enjoy or be interested in law for long. Really good runs for 6 months then get burnt out and hate it. Switch forms and practice areas, and the same cycle commences… :(

like

Exactly!! Lol

Same. Senior associate that needs to go in house soon, and I have no idea what I’d enjoy.

like

May be worth going in-house first to see if that does the trick before you leave law entirely…I moved in-house and realized I just hate law, not just the stress of biglaw as I’d initially suspected. Hope your search goes well.

I spend all day with people who feel like you - so just wanted to normalize it! One thing I’d suggest is doing some deep reflection on your natural strengths (try the Sparketype quiz) and mining your interests. I know it feels like we may give up all outside interests when we become lawyers - but my guess is that there are some things that naturally interest you. And then just start exploring, taking some short-term classes. It’s a lot about taking the blinders off (our vision of the possible gets very narrow as lawyers).

helpful

Mentoring? Find a youth partner from some INGO pick their brain and find new vigor? International lawyers seem to have fun, and international human rights law is indeed a full field itself in the practice of law. Grassroots work can also be fun 🤩 fine tooth combing non profits, private firms, and local government for public interest concerns!

Hi everyone,

I have got the ey hr mail stating i should provide him with aadhar card, information sheet and latest resume for a audit and assurance contract for 6 months as iam a semi qualified CA.

Here my question is should i take this opportunity. Cause since this is only for 6 months. After that, what i can do, where should I try to get the job?

In mid size firms, people won't pay as much as big 4 pays.

Should I take it or am I making a mistake by taking this.
