We have four communities: enterprise improvement, turnaround and restructuring, digital, and investigations & risk. The link you shared OP is for our digital group, AP1 is talking about TMT within our EI community.
We are not large enough that there is a group that only does IT DDs or IT M&As. You’ll need to be well rounded and be able to work on things that a CIO/CTO/CDO will care about.
Instead of looking at our service offering pages, which are more targeted at clients, go to the career page to look at our job postings. We usually have postings that remain up year round because we’re always hiring.
Thanks AP2!
Sounds like you might be familiar with the Digital group or part of it. Mind sharing the culture, compensation etc. for Digital. Thanks again.
Thanks AP1. I've to admit I was quite surprised and theb got curious when I saw a Tech group being talked about in AP's official website. Here is the link:
https://www.alixpartners.com/services/technology-digital/tech-advisory/
The Digital team works in tandem with EI on most of their engagements - in my experience they have be brought on to massive projects that had a big digital transformation and data intensive component - so they helped structure the data warehouse and create dashboards and such, but I don’t want to minimize their work in anyway b/c they do a lot more than that. Lots of data scientists in Digital.
AP1 - Question: Where would you typically see an IT focused M&A skillset fit in? Is it within the M&A practice or generally in a separate group who does some IT DD, some current capability assessment, tech strategy roadmap etc.
I think AP2 answered your question below but I will say that TMT def does this kind of work but it’s only a small portion of our work, and needless to say that the PE practice also does these kind of DDs. I don’t think anyone is specialized in IT focused M&A/DD b/c we are too small for that.

When you say tech advisory - we have a large tech/media/telecom industry group and we work on a variety of strategy and operations engagements - but we don’t do “tech consulting” akin to Accenture/Deloitte etc. (no systems/software implementations and such). I like the practice - great group of interesting and smart folks. Projects have generally been interesting as well. Hours and WLB vary a lot based on the client, partner, and your own boundaries but like any other consulting job, it’s rarely a cushy 9-5 job. I’d say my average week has been 50-55hrs over the last three years.
I am not a Director yet but hopefully end of this year, so I can’t speak to comp definitively but it’s a very wide range depending on your experience and expertise. Lower end of base pay as a Director is probably $225-250k + 35%< bonus.
