Yes, same. I think it’s okay to customize your schedule and figure out what works best for you. We simply cannot go back to the traditional way of working. We have proven we can all do the work with flexibility. AND- data shows we are all HAPPIER and more fulfilled with that flexibility!
May be that means you go into the office 9am -3pm 2x days a week and 10am-6pm 1x day week, and work remote Mon/Fri. Or do 2 long days and work from home 3 days. Who cares, really…Our children are small for a very short period of time and parenthood is a constantly evolution… meaning, soon enough you will get back to a regular schedule in the office, but for now, things look different. And we shouldn’t be punished for that. We are still getting the work done!
It’s the WORST and rearranging my babysitter times too bc of it just means I’m dropping the ball at work way more as well. Whereas when I was home I could be online from 9-6 and get way more done
Childcare by me really changed. It’s so hard because I don’t employ someone full days just after school. That was bad before the pandemic. So many people moved!
I think I still have PTSD from going back and my oldest is 13. So glad everyone’s talking about discussing a flex schedule. It’s so much better than it was (not saying it’s easy). Good luck!
Totally, this is really difficult! My kids were younger when Covid hit and now they are pre-teens and don’t really understand why I am tired, can’t cook dinner, can’t go to everything.
Is it full time or a couple of days a week?
I negotiated 2 days working from home and I straight up told my boss that if I need to come in I will have to leave no later than 5pm on-the-dot for daycare pickup. It’s a tough conversation, but you have to set your boundaries or look for an alterative role that’s full remote. Hopefully your team understands and can grant you some flexibility.
