Happens on ops but not really for investment role. VPs and above are quarterbacking and sourcing deals. Wouldn’t make sense to grab someone without deal experience to share carry with

OP - are you talking investment team? Or Ops team?

Not impossible, but not a typical path. The most likely path is undergrad, MBB entry level for 2 years and then join PE as part of 2 year Associate program (at a firm that values and hires consultants). Otherwise, it’s somewhat of a crapshoot and situational dependent.

I’m in the process with a fund to move over at a senior level. It’s for an investing role. The fund itself is fairly large with a few $B AUM.

I’m high performing at McK but wouldn’t consider myself a “rockstar”, as you stated. Three things to highlight:
1) the fund is operationally focused
2) I do a lot of work in the space the fund invests in
3) although this was years ago, I was an IB analyst (at a brand name bank) out of undergrad so pretty familiar with transactions

Yes, senior Ops people get carry

I left MBB and helped co-found a PE firm. Fundraised and everything. Pretty good experience. I was just pretty dissatisfied with all the “second class citizen” dynamics I saw for the portco ops roles that HHs normally put out.

WFH helped me hide so much about my social anxiety! I love consulting because I feel it works so well with my ADHD (I don't check the time at all). I am rocking my role like crazy and I enjoy every second of it. But social anxiety is killing me AF.

I don't want to use meds, but at the same time, social interactions can easily make me depressed! I am always scared to fail.

Hello, I am a pharmD student graduating in 2023, and I would greatly appreciate anyone who can give me a referral to Putnam associates!

Just accepted an offer as a project delivery specialist. To be completely honest, mainly just took the role for the almost 33% pay increase and how much I enjoyed the team during the interview process. Curious about others’ experience (the good, the bad, the ugly 😅)? The project I’m on is slated to last 3-4 years and I’m not necessarily trying to “find a home” at Deloitte or the big four, in general.

Anyone regret going into data and analytics? Sometimes I feel like I'm too dumb for it. I don't have a statistics background to really take things to the next level, and my colleagues don't have the hours to help me. My technical skills are OK, but nothing to shout at, especially when I don't really have the interest to learn. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and steer my career to a boring client-side position instead.
