Any of you have piercings? I’m considering a nose piercing (very small) but the only thing stopping me is my career - I don’t want it to impact how I’m looked at in the office or how I progress in my career. Thoughts?

I got my brow pierced at 18 and nose around 24. I’m 34 now and the only place I ever applied that said anything about them was Walmart. Since I only applied for over the summer while home from college I didn’t think it was worth removing to be a cashier, especially when people had rainbow hair, nails, and tattoos.

I have worked in a corporate accounting department and have had meetings with c-suite individuals, no issue. I have most recently worked in federal government and also no issues.

Your experience could vary but this is something so minor. If an employer thinks something that little is a hinderance then i dont know if I want to work there. Seems nitpicking.

I got my nostril pierced last year.. no one has said anything… actually, the Managing Director on my engagement loved it and wanted to get one lol.

Just for context - I’m a male that directly serves private equity clients (which are generally very conservative)

Depends on what type of nose piercing and what position you want…

Just a classic nostril one. No septum or anything like that.

Hi! I have worked in management roles in tech, mainly in analytics, for approximately 10 years. My TC has fluctuated (currently around 135K CAD), but it seems like it's relatively easy to breach the 100K bar, but hard to breach the 150K bar. I now work at the CBC, but I have worked in the private sector too. What is the most realistic way to move to 200K? 1) Continue moving the ladder to a VP position, 2) Switch to Pre-Sale, 3) Switch to Consulting, 4) Work from a U.S. company from Canada.

I'm a non-traditional CD analyst working in a niche industry (gambling)

My experience is as follows: BIG4 Audit > FP&A (CPG) > CD analyst (1 year)

I like my role (sourcing, modelling and strategy integration), however I don't see myself working in this industry long term. Without a generalist IB background, are my chances of transitioning over to a different Industry low? If so, is there anything I can learn or do (excluding IB)?

Thanks

"Everybody can be a leader" some say... "Leaders are nurtured not born" say others... True.

But... this is also true: "not everybody wants to be a leader" (whether they can or can't be). It is a fairly common practice in organizations with traditional career management structures for people to "be promoted" into leadership roles as the "end steps of the corporate ladder" that was climbed doing technical work. And, unfortunately, this doesn't work all the time

Fellow enterprise tech sales fish, I’m interested to hear your perspective. I’ve been in a rut lately and seriously considering leaving sales. I think it’s primarily fueled by one thing:
After a 6 mo cycle I closed a large deal (4x the average deal size) prior to receiving delayed 2022 comp plans. The deal counts as a 2022 deal. On last years comp plan it would’ve paid out at 10%. This year it pays out at a measly 4%.

How do you/have you navigated your way through and out of these situations?
