Been here four years. No, you almost definitely won't get market (it ultimately depends on your collections). Yes, you will have to hunt for work/manage your own workflow, but you'll be fine if you build good relationships and keep managing partners/department chairs in the loop.
It's not as smooth of an operation as other shops, especially higher ranked ones. But you can feel job security here that you won't elsewhere, and you'll work more reasonable hours if you prioritize getting work from the right people. The firm's leadership is a bit disconnected from the office day to day, but that's probably true most places. If you want opportunities, most times you can find support.
But yeah, we lose tons of associates each year because too many partners expect BigLaw hours and availability without the corresponding pay. Good luck!

Stay away from the Fort Lauderdale office and specifically the capital markets team.

They’re always aggressively recruiting because people don’t last there. I know for a fact that all but one of the associates I worked with at the time stayed there to this day (and the one that stayed was already a senior associate then and became partner now).

If the option is between a market paying firm and GT, the answer is always not GT.

But if GT is all you have. Go make the best of it and lateral to a market paying firm

Any insights into that office’s litigation department?

3-4:30 - proposal work if I have it or more job hunting

Recent lateral junior associate in brand new practice where I'm the only associate. I'm probably going to bill 1,500 hours max this year due to being very slow and taking time off for a delayed honeymoon which I disclosed during my interview process. I have been told my work product is good, I don't turn anything down, I participate in non-billable work, I'm responsive and I always let people know I'm available to help. Do I need to be worried about getting fired for low hours?

Anyone else just sitting around waiting for the ax to drop? I'm a soon to be 2nd year corporate associate who has seen work completely dry up. My utilization held pretty steady around 50% immediately after shutdown, but August was below 15 billables with no appreciable work in the pipeline. Aside from letting people know I'm available and doing pro-bono/CLE, it's starting to feel like a serious "covidcation" leading to termination.
