Any other Big Law refugees here? I am 8-years out and decided to hang my own shingle due to absurd rates preventing me from developing business. Any words of advice or pointers? I have my website, practice management software, research services, insurance, and CPA lined up. What am I missing? I go live in September.

Congrats on going solo! If you ever need an associate to do contract work or project based work, come my way 😊

Direct message me - practice area?

Pension plan, answering service, bookkeeping software, trust account, networking membership.

A1 - I did not do it myself. I have a CPA who works with an actuary and they set up the plan.

What area of law? I take it you have office space/furniture/other physical stuff. Make sure your e-filing stuff is updated. Set up e-faxing services since there will assuredly be those 1-3 times per year you have to fax something. Our office really benefits from having a texting line that we can use with client, but that may depend on your area of practice (service we use is called Grasshopper). Having a Google Maps listing is important. Employee handbook if you are going to have employees. Secure cloud storage for your documents. Those are the things that come to mind right now!

I’m trying to transition full time into the Editorial realm, I have some experience, but I’ve had a very hard time getting full time work. And any other tips on breaking into full time editorial.

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.
