Any Pharma/Biotech Recruiters in the house?

I recently extended an offer to a candidate for a Principal Scientist role. A few days later, the candidate informed me that his current company gave him an offer $8,000 higher in base salary than what we offered and a $10,000 sign-on bonus.

While it's not unheard of, I've never personally encountered a situation where a company offers internal candidates a sign on. I’m curious to know if any of you have come across similar scenarios?

Im currently going through industry change.
Im a pastry cook with 4yrs experience and the average salary start for this position is now at $22/hr here in vegas, especially in the strip. But cooking/baking is not my passion. So im changing into veterinary medicine and im seeing that the starting rate for a vet tech is around $16-18. Why is that?? Why are people in the vet med industry being paid so low?? Something needs to change. Labor of love aint enough for the people in this job.

I've been almost 3 years in my previous company and never have I ever tasted any raise from them. I got transferred to different accounts and LOB it was so exhausting and finally when I decided to leave and send my resignation my Supervisor be like "you know you should be thankful of your job" To be honest the job was very stressful and supervisor at some point is somehow toxic but thankful I get to take my leave.
