I am going through a background verification with HireRight for Microsoft. I put as job titles the ones I also put on my resume, which are matching my real duties and activities. However, apart from my last employer, my past internal employers have really weird internal titles that say nothing about my qualifications and skills. When the IRS (e.g., a RO/AO/Examiner) calls or writes a letter… How do you verify that it’s really the IRS and not a scam? I’m new to tax law and I’m worried that I’m going to respond to/answer a scam and give away client info (or my own tax preparer info). I don’t think my worry is unfounded due to the tremendous amount of tax/IRS scam out there but it would be nice to hear from some of y’all so that I’m not so worried about it…
