Any United health group remote employees here? I recently accepted an accounting job and some of the onboard makes it seem like I’m only allowed to work from my home office. I usually spend a few weeks a year out of town visiting family and work during this time so I don’t have to use PTO but I’m nervous I won’t be allowed to do that anymore

It’s partially to prevent Nexus, partially to prevent them needing to follow the employment laws in that state.

smart

Also partially to prevent them from any potential liability if you do work from another possibly less secure or irregular location.

My mom worked for UHG, not accounting though. From what I can remember, they supply a business internet line and have everything behind a hard wired firewall and stuff. You get issued a work laptop, but there’s a lot of security installed that doesn’t allow much freedom.

like

Okay that’s what I thought thank you

Honestly this has probably always been against company policies. There are significant state tax issues associated with allowing employees to work outside their home office. Not surprised it’s policy

Not just United health, many companies do that.

It is probably a don’t ask don’t tell culture. You really think they would monitor you IP address?

It’s really easy to monitor IP addresses now too. We have it set up so our team gets notified anytime a connection from an IP address outside the country accesses it. If I take my laptop on vacation I get texts/emails verifying it’s me. You can easily do it to set it anytime you’re not logging in from your traditional location. In healthcare or anyone who deals with PHI it’s super high security because the fines are huge.

I have an offer and want to negotiate

1. London base salary but I have to absorb all the expenses (train + stay)
I am thinking to negotiate to

2. home base salary and have my expenses paid for

I know that's depends on the amount I have to travel (and potentially stay) but at the moment this is unknown. Past 8 months was just twice a month + 2 nights stay.

The only thing I know is it won't be every week, the return trian ticket is about £80-100, depends I could plan ahead.

People at EY not use the corporate card? The expense system is horrible. But might not be worth using my Marriott card...
