If you like public accounting, I would say a smaller regional firm could be a good fit. I worked in regional firm for 4 years and have now been in industry for 4.5 years. I’m burned out and stressed more than ever in industry versus how I felt in public accounting. Also depends on your life situation.
Busy season at smaller regional firm is maybe 50-60 hours max a week during busy season.
Not really during busy season. You might be doing some wrap up on previous one or two but never fully working on two (at least not a supervisor level) or more at same time. I think during summer when auditing 401ks was probably doing a few at once but they’re easy.
If you truly enjoy accounting concepts and just got sick of audit procedures and the long hours, I would recommend applying for accounting advisory at all the public accounting firms and see who will take you. Different firms name their accounting advisory practice differently such as CMAAS, FAAS, AAS, etc.
I think I agree that it’s not 40 hours but I work pretty closely with some folks from Deloitte advisory and with a Deloitte audit partner and they’ve mentioned that the hours in advisory are much better than audit. But I have to say, they do work a lot and I’m sure they’re tired of me 🤣🤣🤣🤣 so I think it can vary in advisory
