Feeling like I’ve been “bait-and-switched”…

I’ve been interviewing at an agency with the intention of filling a Director role. Recruitment reached out soon after my last meet-and-greet interview (about 6 to 7 people total) to tell me the team thinks I would be best suited for an Associate Director role with a fast follow of a Director promotion.

Recruitment can’t tell me what feedback is creating this gap but also won’t stop mentioning the positive praise and feedback the team had for me.

I was promised a promotion, then was told I wasn’t getting promoted, started applying to other places, fought for it and ended up getting promoted and a raise. I was just offered a job at another agency for $15k higher than the raise I just got. My mom was just diagnosed with cancer and was told to stop working so now I have to cover all of her expenses as well as mine and my husband’s (he’s back in school). I’d like to stay at my current agency but NEED the $. How do I navigate this?

I understand A&M comp is primarily derived from the annual bonus based on collections/performance. However, given the significant increase in Big 4 FDD comp this year, are there any plans to raise the base salary for A&M? I have to pay rent every month not just annually 🤣

Applying to roles within the same federal agency. I know you need one year within the probationary period, but can I apply to a higher GS level? For example, if I'm GS 9, receive a promotion to GS 11 at the end of probation, would i be able to apply to GS 13 roles if I'm qualified? Started a new job a year ago, high performer. My manager suggested a promotion to Product Manager since that‘s the work I’m doing, but that would be a 50% raise. Higher ups decided instead to make a “new role” (not PM), that has no analog in the company and is hard to price via Glassdoor, etc. I feel like this is to limit my promotion salary to something like 10% from where it currently is. Senior engineer making 135k and I was offered a promotion to engineering manager after completing a development plan. Near the end of the plan and I expect compensation talks to start soon. Based on some research around Boston and my role in the company, I feel 165k plus 10-15% bonus is fair. Nonetheless, first time going through something like this and asking for thoughts and comments.
